Peter Poullos, MD
Clinical Professor of Radiology and Medicine at Stanford, specializing in abdominal and pelvic imaging.
Dr. Poullos combines clinical practice and medical education with advocacy for disabled learners, healthcare professionals, and patients.
Training and clinical practice
Dr. Poullos earned his MD at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1999 and completed his internal medicine residency at UCSF in 2002. During his gastroenterology fellowship, a spinal cord injury led him to pursue a new path in medicine.
He completed radiology residency and a Body Imaging fellowship at Stanford, joining the faculty in 2009. His clinical focus includes CT, MRI, and ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis, acute abdominal conditions, and oncologic imaging.
Teaching and peer learning
From 2009 to 2016, Dr. Poullos served as Associate Residency Program Director for Stanford Radiology. He initiated the Body Imaging Peer Learning Conference in 2011 and continues to teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
He is a co-author of Imaging in Gastroenterology.
Disability inclusion
In 2018, Dr. Poullos founded SMADIE. He co-hosts the DocsWithDisabilities podcast and helps advance mentorship, research, and inclusion in medical education.
In 2022, he received the Stanford President’s Award for Excellence through Diversity.
