Current Position
Clinical Associate Professor, Stanford Department of Radiology and Department of Medicine-Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Dr. Poullos, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, earning his M.D. degree in 1999. His academic journey led him to the University of California-San Francisco, where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 2002. He furthered his training in the same institution as a Gastroenterology Fellow until 2004. A spinal cord injury, however, prompted his shift toward Radiology.
Continuing his pursuits, Dr. Poullos embarked on a Radiology residency at Stanford University. Here, he further honed his expertise through a fellowship in Body Imaging, graduating in 2009. Presently, he holds faculty positions in both the Radiology and Internal Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology) departments.
As a clinician at Stanford Medicine, Dr. Poullos specializes in interpreting CT, MRI, and ultrasound, with a primary focus on the abdomen and pelvis. He maintains a deep interest in the radiology of acute abdomen and oncologic imaging, with special emphasis on hepatobiliary malignancy and cancers of the upper and lower digestive tracts and colorectal cancer screening. His influential research has been presented in prestigious medical journals and at national and international conferences.
Dr. Poullos has a passion for performance improvement and peer learning, which led him to initiate the Peer Learning Conference for the Body Imaging Division in 2011, an initiative that continues bimonthly to this day. He serves as the Body Imaging representative to the Performance Improvement Committee.
From 2009 to 2016, he served as the Associate Residency Program Director for the Stanford Radiology Residency. His contributions to education have not gone unnoticed – he is a distinguished educator at the School of Medicine Teaching and Mentoring Academy. He continues to thrive on the opportunity to educate medical students, residents, and fellows, reflecting his robust interest in medical education.
